Although no one really looks forward to having teeth extracted, sometimes it’s best for your oral health. Such is the case with wisdom teeth. If you are experiencing issues with your wisdom teeth due to insufficient space for them to emerge, it’s time to schedule an appointment with the team at Desert Creek Dental in Queen Creek, Arizona, to have them removed. These FAQs explain more about wisdom teeth removal services and why they’re needed.
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that generally emerge between the ages of 18 and 25. If you are experiencing tooth or jaw pain, swelling of the gum tissue, redness or soreness in the gums, or frequent infections around your upper or lower molars, it may be a sign that your wisdom teeth are coming in.
If there’s space for your wisdom teeth to erupt, they may come in without a hitch, making removal unnecessary. Unfortunately, most people don’t have room in their mouths for these additional teeth to erupt properly. Wisdom teeth may sometimes grow in at awkward angles, causing crowding or discomfort for your existing teeth. To help alleviate any issues, Dr. Heath Snell provides expert wisdom teeth removal at our office.

Removing wisdom teeth typically involves oral surgery, as these teeth are often impacted beneath the gum line. If the crown of the wisdom tooth is visible, it may be possible to extract the tooth without surgery. However, if the tooth is impacted, Dr. Snell will begin by making an incision in your gum and may need to remove any bone that is blocking the tooth. If necessary, we may break the tooth into smaller pieces to facilitate the extraction. After the tooth is removed, we will suture the gum closed to promote healing.
Pain shouldn’t be a concern during wisdom tooth removal, as the procedure is performed under local or IV sedation. Rest assured, you won’t feel a thing! We prioritize your comfort and safety during wisdom tooth removal. Afterward, some soreness and discomfort can be expected for a few days. Ice packs and pain medication can help manage these symptoms.
The initial recovery period after wisdom tooth removal is around 3-5 days. By day five, you should be back on your feet, although full recovery won’t be for another two weeks. For a quicker, smoother recovery, our team recommends the following:
