Sedation Dentistry

woman concerned looking at dental officeToo many Americans avoid the dentist because they are afraid of the pain or discomfort that may come from sitting in the dental chair. If you have put off dental care that is important for your health and confidence, it’s time to see a qualified sedation dentist.

Dr. Ismail Pardazi is an experienced dentist in Queen Creek, AZ whose patients appreciate his friendly, easygoing nature that helps take the stress out of their dental visits. He takes your concerns about dental anxiety very seriously and is happy to offer sedation dentistry to help you overcome it.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry may be well-suited to patients who:

  • Have dental anxiety or dental phobia.
  • Have had poor dental experiences in the past.
  • Have an overactive gag reflex.
  • Find it difficult to sit still for long periods of time.
  • Would like to undergo several dental procedures in one appointment.

Sedation dentistry allows Dr. Pardazi to ensure that your much-needed treatment is free of pain and anxiety.

Types of Sedation Dentistry We Offer

Although many dental practices only offer one form of dental sedation or no options at all, we believe it is important to offer several different choices for our patients. At our practice, you can choose the sedation type and level of sedation that is best for you.

At Desert Creek Dental, you and your Queen Creek dentist can decide from the following forms of sedation dentistry.

Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas

woman smiling in dental chairNitrous oxide or laughing gas provides short-term relaxation and does not produce any lingering drowsy side effects. Since it is a gas, we administer nitrous through a small breathing mask that we place over the nose.

Just breathe normally, and in a few minutes, you will begin to feel very calm. You can still respond to Dr. Pardazi’s questions and maintain your natural reflexes but nitrous oxide allows you to relax completely without falling asleep. After your procedure, you will be able to drive yourself safely home from your appointment.

Oral Sedation

Oral conscious sedation will reduce anxiety or discomfort associated with dental work. All you have to do is take a pill prescribed to you by Dr. Pardazi. This anti-anxiety medication will cause you to feel drowsy and calm during your procedure. Our dentist will recommend the medication best suited to your overall health and preferred sedation level.

IV Sedation

IV sedation allows for a higher level of sedation for those patients with more serious dental fear or those who are undergoing procedures like wisdom tooth extraction or restorative dentistry. You don't have to go to a specialist for IV sedation, because our anesthesia specialist Dr. Snell is qualified to provide safe IV sedation in the comfort of our office.

You will sleep throughout the procedure and afterward you won’t remember much, if anything, that happened. Our clinical dental team will monitor you closely so we can reduce or increase your level of sedation based on your bodily responses.

Please note that a consultation with Dr. Pardazi is required prior to scheduling IV sedation. IV Sedation is performed in our office by Dr. Heath Snell.
